Abstract

This paper explores the lives of Rohingyas in Nepal. This community has been subject to persecution and displacement due to the 1982 immigration law in Myanmar, which stripped them of their citizenship. Despite Nepal's alignment with international human rights obligations, Rohingyas continue to face challenges in accessing legal status and protection. This study examines the historical context, media discourse, and personal narratives of Rohingyas living in Kapan, Kathmandu, to assess their refugee status under Nepalese law. We argue that negotiation, repatriation, reintegration, and third-country resettlement are the most viable long-term solutions to address the Rohingya crisis.
